PORT-HARCOURT-0The much talked about Ogoni Clean up as one of the Achievements of the Buhari’s administration would be taken as a grand deceit of the highest order if the series of events, accusations, threats and sub threats going on in the Ogoni land is anything to judge.
Daily Watch investigations in the length and breadth of Ogoni land shows an unrivalled and uncommon discontent of the People of the oil rich community over the grand deceit and high class games the Ogoni clean up has become In the hands of the Federal Government.
According to investigations, the so called Ogoni clean-up is just some kind of Political slogan as in reality not much is been done on ground despite all the promises with over a year gone since the Vice President Yemi Osibanjo launched the clean up tales.
The Ogoni Clean Up which falls under the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNIP) was meant to clean up the total condemn soil and dig deep to clear of years of Pollution and health challenges the Populace had been through the several years of oil exploitation in the land starting with the relocation,bulding of world class health facilities and medical assessment and text for the people as a first step but shocking none of this preamble is in place yet the Federal Government keeps putting pressure on the People to allow for Oil Exploitation a thing that has sparked of new tension in the community coupled with the stories that the Federal Government is plotting to build a modern Prison yard and a word class Cemetery in the Ogoni axis.
This plot is said to have incensed the people who have been upbeat over the slow pace of the clean up exercises and the Government refusal to follow the preamble before the clean up which involves building of a world class Health Center, evacuation and test/treatment of the People.
Speaking with one of the most outspoken men in the Ogoni land and former leader of MOSOP Leedum Mitee he expressed shock over the plot by the Government of the Day to commence Oil Exploitation even when just nothing of the clean up of the land has been done and vowed that the Ogoni People Would resist any such move by the Federal government just as he lampooned the Federal Government for making Plans to set up a Prison and a Cemetery in their land when all they need now are basic infrastructures as embedded in the UNIP report.
In the Words of Mittee’the Ogoni’s would resist any and every attempt by the Federal Government to commence Oil Drilling in Ogoni land until the total package that the UNIP report on Ogoni has been cleared to the latter same for any attempt to site Cemetery and Prison yard in Ogoni land rather what the Ogoni’s need is the total implementation of the UNEP reports before any other thing”.
Daily watch findings also confirmed that the 1 billion Naira Counter par Funding by Shell over the Same clean up is hanging as the Company has refused to drop a dime of their funding as a result of what insiders term the insincerity of the Federal Government in the whole clean up implementation process as the Company vowed to only release their share of the Cleanup fund when they see a genuine attempt at the cleaning coupled with the implementation of the report as enshrined in the actual UNIP reports.
Attempts to reach out to the Minister for Environment on the Government refusal to commence the Clean up of Ogoni with the Preambles in the UNIP reports instead of the facades on ground in the land of the Ogonis was not possible as at press time as calls to the Ministers Media aides was not answered.
