President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians to be honest in whatever they do.

Honesty, according to him, remained the best policy.

“We must exhibit such behaviour in whatever position we find ourselves, whether high or low,” he said.

The president made the call while praising some security men at the Murtala Muhammed Airport who returned some valuables lost by an American returnee.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Femi Adesina, the president said the security men could have gone away with the valuables but chose to be honest.

“The security men could have chosen to behave differently, following the self-serving principle of ‘if you can’t beat them, join them.’ But they have chosen to be examples of good, honest Nigerians. I commend their conduct to the rest of the country,” the president said.

He said Nigeria would no longer be a byword for corruption and plundering of public resources.

He stated that the path the country had chosen to take would eventually get to a new shore.

A Lagos-based medical doctor, Banji Oyegbami, had met a family returning from America at the airport on August 18, 2018.

In the process of loading their luggage into the car of their host, the handbag of the returnee’s wife fell, unknown to anyone.

It was not till 90 minutes later that an officer of Halogen Securities, on duty at the airport, called the couple, to come for the retrieved bag.

When the bag was eventually collected, the contents, including a handsome amount of American dollars, phone, wrist watch, and other valuables were intact.

The grateful couple offered a generous gift, but Messrs Francis Emepueaku and Achi Daniel, declined, saying they were merely doing their duties.

Music House: Carry out amendments that will restore public confidence, Akande tells Ajimobi

A gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State, Professor Adeolu Akande, has called on Governor Abiola Ajimobi to have a rethink on his posture on the demolition of Music House owned by popular musician, Mr. Yinka Ayefele.

He said the governor should carry out amendments that would restore public confidence in his government and in his person.

“Ayefele means many things to many people. His rise to grace in spite of a major life challenge makes him a model for a good percentage of our people. As a musician, he has been the purveyor of joy and happiness to many of us because of his melodious and philosophical music. As a philanthropist, he is a great shield for hundreds of thousands of people. As the promoter of Fresh FM, he is a trustee of public trust as the station has become the Voice of the Voiceless,” Akande said.

He said his call became necessary because Ajimobi was on the homestretch of his administration and there would not be such auspicious opportunity for him to etch his name in the positive side of history.

According to him, those who encouraged the governor to embrace hard-line positions in his last months in government were not his friends and did not mean well for him and Oyo State.

Similarly, Akande appealed to Governor Abiola Ajimobi to restore the virtue of compassion in his government, noting that that recent actions of the government suggested that some elements in the Ajimobi government had forgotten that the government won the election in 2011 with the promise to cater for the security and welfare of the people of the state.

Akande, who teaches Political Science at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State explained that “no government without the element of compassion could  go down in history as a successful government.”

“The primary responsibility of any government is to protect lives and property. The sacredness of private property is second in importance only to that of the preservation of life.

“A government has a duty to make all necessary measures to protect the property of private citizens just as it has a duty to protect their lives,” he stated.
