National President of the Ijaw youths council (IYC) Barr. Oweilaemi Pereotubo has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s achievements as empty and mere media hype with no reality on ground. This was in response to Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Oguru who was quoted saying that President Muhammadu Buhari has done a lot of works for the Niger Delta region more than any previous government has done in the past 20 years.

In a media statement on Sunday, a copy was made available to Daily Watch by Barr. Oweilaemi, said ‘‘The attention of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) worldwide has been drawn to a statement accredited to the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Oguru who was quoted to have said Buhari has done a lot of works for the Niger Delta region more than any previous government has done in the past 20 years. IYC would ordinarily have ignored such vainglory achievements as they did not translated into reality, we wish to dignify the Hon. Minister with a response in order to put record straight.

‘‘The truth is that Buhari Government has virtually done nothing for the Niger Delta region. His Government has treated the region with disdain as we formed party of the 5% States. We do not know where Pastor Usani gets his recorded achievements. Under Buhari’s government, the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs is the least funded ministry. No Niger Delta state can boost of any project Usani has initiated since he became the Minister’’ he noted.

Continuing ‘‘We make bold to say that if the Federal Government has given attention to the Niger Delta region, there would not have been militants’ crisis under this administration. We challenge the Minister to publish those projects the Government has executed and their locations so that the discerning minds can verify to ascertain the truth. Niger Delta people are bitterly complaining that the FG has abandoned the region in spite of its promises.

‘‘People should not use the suicidal commitments of the elders and leaders of the region in restoring peace to the once volatile terrain as a platform to launder their image. Niger Delta people will not vote for candidates in the incoming elections based on the phantom achievements and image laundering.’’ He said
