There was palpable tension as two killed at the venue of the Sagbama Ijaw youths Council (IYC) as the two opposing groups exchanged blows over disagreement with the manner and way the convention was being conducted in Sagbama, headquarters of Sagbama LGA of Bayelsa state.
An eye witness account who pleaded anonymity told Daily Watch on phone ” It was appalling that two persons were killed in IYC convention at Sagbama over disagreement in the way and manner the convention was being conducted. I think, some of the boys are on drug as one wondered how the issues resulted to killing one another” he exclaimed.
Daily Watch gathered that the bone of contention was caused by the committee which was to conduct the election created a fresh IYC chapter to increase the number of clans. This additional chapter triggered hitted debate untill it resulted to exchange of physical blows of two groups that led to the summary death of the two youths from Central zone of IYC.
Although, we gathered that the convention was conducted successfully, despite the disruption.
Our effort to hear from both the outgoing factional IYC national presidents Barr. Oweilaemi Pereotubo and Barr. Eric Omare was abortive as both phones were switched off at the time of filing this report.
However, our source said the identity of corpses are yet to be identified as the situation is still tense.
Meanwhile, one the factional national IYC president Barr. Eric Omare debunked the report on phone call that the killing was an isolated case of some youths fighting outside the IYC convention as the convention ended peacefully. He said it was one person that died and not two during the fighting .
He said the report was not only incorrect but was misleading the reading public as there was no connection between the death and the IYC convention.
Note: IYC President Barr. Eric Omare called editorial desk shortly after the publication of this news.
