• We will go after them- Bounanawei
BURUTU-Suspected sea-pirates today have challenged Burutu Local Government council newly inaugurated security out, led by ex-militant leader, Amb. Godday Smith aka Bounanawei (king of the forest) and his men as the gun men successfully raided a Burutu /Warri bound passenger boat, shot one person and took away unspecified property, including cash.
Daily Watch gathered that the Burutu council Chairman, Hon. Godknows Angele, just last week constituted his private security outfit to monitor and unmask sea pirates, kidnappers and other forms of criminal activities in the waterways.
We learnt that the gun men attacked the Warri/Burutu bound passenger boat on Friday morning, shot one passenger in the chest and the victim was taken to a specialist hospital at Delta State University teaching hospital, Oghara for treatment.
Eyewitness said the victim may be in great danger as the shot spot may had internal bleeding before the arrival at the hospital.
Confirming the incidence, the Chairman of the security outfit in Burutu LGA, Amb. Godday Smith aka (King of the forest) expressed anger and threatened to deal with youths perpetrating evil acts in the Burutu river. He said his men are yet to enter the river as screening of members from various communities is still ongoing.
He,however, pledged to work with soldiers, police and navy to make the waterways a peaceful area.
His words, ‘‘ Yes, sea pirates attacked a passenger boat today and shot one of the passengers. The victim as I was told was taken to Oghara teaching hospital. My men are yet to commence work as you can see, we are still carrying out screening exercise for recruitment. When we start work, I assure you, we will comb everywhere to fish out these evil elements. I have dispatched my men to go after the sea-pirates and unmask them to security men to arrest them. I am warning parents to advise their children. Nobody should blame me when my men start operation.’’
He appealed to the Delta State government to give a huge support to the Burutu council to provide logistics for his men to make the waterways calm for both multinationals and transporters to ply without any form of harassment and molestation by anybody.
