Embattled HRM. Samson Ogugu, the Osuivie of Agbarho kingdom
  • He escaped through back door-Police

Pandemonium in Agbarho town in Ughelli North LGA of Delta state as gunmen numbering over twenty with sophisticated weapons captured the palace of the  Agbarho king, His Royal Majesty Samson Ogugu, the Osuivie of Agbarho kingdom today (Sunday) at about 12pm with sporadic shooting into the air.

Daily Watch could not get reason of the invasion of the palace of the Agbarho monarch which sources said he narrowly escaped through the back door.

When we called the DPO of the Agbarho police station to confirm, his phone was switched off. Although, we made a frantic effort to call the commissioner of police Delta state. Mr. Muhammadu Mustafa who confirmed the development. But noted that nobody was injured as the gunmen were not   to harm anybody as they shot into the air.

Delta state commissioner of police Mr. Muhammadu told Daily Watch that his men are on ground and added ‘‘The monarch is safe and that my men in Agbarho police station told me he (Monarch) escaped through the back door.’’

Asked what could be connected to the invasion of the palace by gunmen? He said ‘’‘All I know is that there has been a royal tussle among the people which I was involved in settling their rift. It may not be unconnected to the lingering problem. My DPO is on ground and the situation will be brought to normalcy’’’ he said.

Our effort to speak to some of the prominent Chiefs, including the embattled monarch proved abortive as all their phone numbers are switched off.

We gathered that the gunmen seized the staff of office belonging to the monarch at the palace, perhaps as direvted by the masterminds of the invasion.

It could be recalled that  there has been a lingering royal tussle few months ago when the king makers  otherwise called ‘’ Usueches’’ from the various royal families had served the monarch a letter calling for his dethronement on alleged gross misconduct.

But the Okparegbe sub-clans however condemned the action of the Usueches and pledged their allegiance and stood behind the monarch in a recent general meeting which 14  communities of Awwredjan and Okpategbe sub clan have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on HRM Ajuwe, Samson Owhe Ogugu 1.

However, this fresh development on Sunday by  gunmen invasion is a new dimension to the Agbarho lingering royal rift. As at the time of filing this report, the gunmen still laid siege at the palace.
