The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has requested the Benue State Government to release the minutes of it’s security council meetings to the commission.

Daily Watch can authoritatively report that the anti-graft agency has been putting pressure on some officials of the government under investigation to release the minutes to it’s operatives.

A source from the state who pleaded not to be named because he is not empowered  to speak on the matter  told this newspaper the EFCC is bent on destibilising the state.

“The EFCC is putting pressure on some of our officials to release the minutes of the state security council meetings to them,” the source said.

“I don’t know what the EFCC wants to do with minutes of Benue State security council meetings?

“Has the EFCC moved from fighting corruption to a security regulating agency? It has asked for minutes of the state security council meetings between 2015 and 2018.

“What does EFCC want from Benue State,” the source queried.

Attempts to speak with the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, failed as he would not pick calls or respond to text message from this newspaper.

The anti-graft agency last week closed down the accounts of the state in a move that sparked an outrage across the country.

Trouble started shortly after the Governor, Samuel Ortom, defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The EFCC first clamped down on the accounts of the state after accusing Mr. Ortom of laundering billions of naira through security votes.
