YENAGOA- Family members of Ijaw martyr late Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro have protested over neglect by the Ijaw nation after 50 years of the death of their son who sacrificed his life for Ijaw freedom, accusing IYC, INC and other relevant institutions of abandoning the family which the surviving members live in penury and abject poverty.
As Ijaw people celebrated exactly 50years of the death of their hero, late Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro, founder and henchman of the Ijaw struggle for self-determination and Resource control.
The family of the late hero, took to the streets of Kaiama to lodge their displeasure over what they described, as neglection from the IYC, INC and Ijaw prominent leaders.
The family claims that the IYC and INC are only interested in enriching themselves via the name ‘Isaac Boro’, whereas the family of the late hero are in perpetual poverty.
Speaking at the protests, Alaowei Boro, grandson of the late hero, noted that, the home of his grandfather was in a pitiable and deplorable condition calling for urgent attention.
“As I speak to you, we are almost having nowhere to lay our head, most of us cannot even afford basic education, it’s pathetic my brother, they keep celebrating my grandfather every year, but there is nothing to show, the IYC and INC are only interested in making money and that’s all, no plan for Boro family
” Look at boro’s house and tell me if it is better than a hole, yet am aware that with my grandfather’s name they have built for themselves mansion
“There is no struggle anywhere, IYC and INC are all wolves in sheep’s clothing, and very soon we will rise against them, we will seek a court order to stop them from parading with my grandfather’s name” he said.
Alaowei further noted that, the state government has also neglected them.
The protesters sang and marched round the town with placards, inscripted with the following, ” 50 years they use our name Boro yet we get no benefits ” “50 years the name Boro lives on but the family is in poverty” “50 years Boro family, no employment, no Job”
