BOMADI—In a bid to prevent the spread of the infamous cholera outbreak, which is currently recorded in various states across the country, the executive chairman of Bomadi local government area, Delta State, Hon. Rawlings Dagidi Andaye, has taken a bold step in combating the disease by distributing free drugs to all primary healthcare centres in various communities across the council area.
Distributing the drugs from the Kpakiama Primary Healthcare Centre to various health facilities in the creek, Friday, the Supervisor Health, Hon. Adaka Amameniye, noted that the council boss had deemed it expedient to curb the spread of the disease by swiftly swinging into action even before any recorded case in council area.
He disclosed that the drugs were provided free by the council to the primary healthcare facilities in the council area, emphasizing that the council boss had ordered free treatment for patients in all healthcare facilities in case of any emergency arising from the disease.
“Our amiable council chairman had deemed it necessary to take both preventive and precautionary measures by providing the drugs for the primary healthcare facilities across the council area, even before any recorded case here.
“My advice to our people is that, they should run to the nearest primary healthcare facilities in their various communities in case of any emergency regarding the disease”, Hon. Amameniye said.
The chief matron at the Kpakiama Primary Healthcare Centre, Eunice Edonkumoh, who is the most senior matron in the LGA, expressed gratitude to the council chairman after receiving the drugs, disclosing that Bomadi LGA had recorded several cases of the outbreak in various communties.
She said: “We are very grateful to the council chairman for his swift action and as you can see, we are distributing the drugs to the various healthcare facilities in various communties through the health officers who came here to receive them.
“Cholera is a communicable disease mostly caused by contaminated water and food, and there are some recorded cases in various communities such as Esanma, Ogriagbene, Akugbene, Kpakiama and other communities in the council area.
“My plea and advice to the people of Bomadi local government area and environs is that, they should adhere to proper hygiene, people should take precautionary measures to avoid being attacked by the disease.
“However, some important preventive measures of the cholera disease are; proper boiling of water before drinking, serving your food hot, eating your food hot, washing of hands before and after eating, washing your fruits before eating and washing of your hands after going to the toilet”.
