Despite being a soft target for kidnappers and terrorists in recent time in Nigeria, the Bomadi Catholic Diocese at the weekend harvested and ordained eight priest to its fold.
The Bishop of the Bomadi Catholic Diocese Dr. Hyacinth Egbebo speaking to journalists shortly after the ordination mass at Bomadi, headquarter of Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State described the eight young ordained priests in God’s vineyard as bountiful in the history of the diocese.
Egbebo explained that is God that calls one to be a priest and priesthood is an identity, a sacramental Representative of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He noted with dismay that priests being an anointed servant of God and their peaceful disposition in winning souls for Christ has now become an endangered species, targeted for kidnapping ,ransom taking , murder and terrorists attack.
The cleric stated that the wrath of God is near those who persecuting and killing God’s anointed servant, warned unless they change their way to attract God’s mercy. While making reference to the Bible, Egbebo said, David had the opportunity to kill king Saul but did not because King Saul was the anointed king of God, Cain killed Abel which attracted God’s wrath upon himself.
He admonished those with evil intentions not see the Catholic Church and it’s priests as a gold mine to be targeted for as a soft spot to perpetrate crime to make unwholesome money. As they are called by God to bring humanity closer to him.
The cleric expressed joy that in contrast of what is going on Nigeria where people take leisure in committing crime the harvest of these eight ordained priests in the Bomadi Catholic diocese shows that the Church is highly favoured and blessed by God.
