The leadership of Bayelsa West All Progressives Congress (APC) Group has vehemently condemned the purported idea of zoning as being peddled and advanced by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) being reported in some traditional media outfits in the State. Saying, APC is not party to the said zoning agreement.
The group noted that there has never been any form of zoning in the Bayelsa West Senatorial District in view of the fact that it is used as a political gimmick to advance their personal political interest.
The former acting Governor of the State, His Excellency Rt. Hon Nestor Binabo, who is the chairman of the Group noted with total dismay that the same apostles of the so-called zoning formular circumvented, with impunity, the terms and conditions of the purported agreement in which the then serving senator in 2015 attempted to secure a third term for himself.
Rt. Hon Binabo stated this in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting held in Sagbama town in Sagbama local government area of Bayelsa State.
He states that any principle underlying the idea of zoning as being advanced by the PDP that does not consider the level of injustice done to a section of the people is repugnant to natural justice and good conscience.
Rt. Hon. Ibenabo, who is also a former speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and represented Sagbama constituency 1, believes that the unwholesome trend is an offshoot of avarice, greed, voraciousness and deep-seated hatred against the people of Ekeremor local government area on the part of the PDP to have zoned all the elective offices meant for the two LGAs such as the offices of the Governor, Deputy Governor and Senate to one local Government Area.
He said: This has further been exacerbated by the level of insensitivity displayed by some self-seeking politicians who flagrantly abused the golden principles of fairness, equity and justice as they failed to consider the number of years the people of Sagbama LGA had served in the Senate (14 years) in relation to the people of Ekeremor LGA who had served only Eight years in the Senate, he stated.
He further said the group deemed it fit to assuage the ill-feelings of the people of Ekeremor LGA by providing an acceptable balance that encourages fairness in order to enjoy long lasting relationship among the people of the Senatorial District after carefully engaged in widespread consultation and robust discussions with major stakeholders and the good people of the area.
