The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Bayelsa State Council has solicited support and partnership with the Mayor of Yenagoa local government area to improve on the activities of the Council.
Comrade Samuel Numonengi, the NUJ State Council chairman appealed to the Mayor particularly in the repair of its official bus to enhance the activities of the Council.
The NUJ chairman made the statement during courtesy visit to the Mayor of Yenagoa local government council boss in Bayelsa state.
Comrade Numonengi said the essence of the council to Local Government Council Secretariat to formally congratulate the Mayor on his election as the Executive Chairman of the Yenagoa City Council and to seek ways of partnership between the union and the Council.
The NUJ Chairman commended the humility of the Mayor and thanked him for the reception accorded him and his entourage, describing the visit to the Chairman as historic and the first of it’s kind.
On his remarks, the Mayor of Yenagoa City Council, Hon. Nimizuo Urupaye assured the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Council of his willingness to support the activities of the Union in the state.
Hon. Urupaye, who highlighted the critical role of the media in the development of the society, particularly its agenda setting role for leaders and any government in place, stressed the need for his Council to cross fertilize ideas with the NUJ to move the local government forward.
The Council boss expressed appreciation to the NUJ for the visit, noting that it would spur him to do more for the people.
He described himself as one who does not segregate and not influenced by his office but strives to serve everyone to the best of his ability.
He assured the Bayelsa State Council of the NUJ of his support, particularly in the repair of the union’s official bus.
