Bayelsa State Police command has arrested a 20-year-old suspect,Benjamin Wariebi, in Bebelebiri II Community of Yenagoa, the State capital for allegedly defiling a 11-year-old girl.
Daily Watch gathered that the suspect lured the innocent girl by sending her on errand and dragged her into his room,”and he asked me to go and buy N50 groundnut for him. And when I brought the groundnut. He dragged me inside his room clamped his hand over my mouth to stop me from screaming.”
“After he finished. I was crying and bleeding with lots of pains. Some youths saw me and asked me question. He wanted to run but was apprehended.”
The incident which occurred on Saturday at about 8pm threw up the community into shock as sympathetizers were running to save the minor as blood was profusely gushing out from her private part.
It was also gathered that, the eleven years child was rush to Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa where she undergo multiple stitches to her virginal before the blood gushing out could be contained.
Speaking with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, the Mother of the child said she was under pressure by relatives and friends of the Man not to prosecute the rapist, stressing that he must face the full weight of the law.
She said, “all I need is justice. He must be made to pay for this gross damage against my child.”
Speaking on the rape incident, Barr. Dise Ogbise-Erhisere, the Chairperson of the Do Foundation, an advocacy group against Rape and violence against the girl child, expressed concern over the rising cases of rape cases in the state.
She said: “One, two many cases again. I am short of words. The girl has been stiched up and in pains. She’s responding to treatement though.
“The perpetrator is in police custody. This is a clear case of defilement and I will urge the team of policemen to quickly tidy up their investigation and send the file to DPP for legal advise and possible immediate prosecution of the perpetrator,” she said.

Asinim Butswat, said the suspect has been arrested and investigation is ongoing with a view to ensuring that the suspect if found wanting, is made to face the full wrath of the law.
