The member representing Ekeremor constituency 11 in  the state House of Assembly, Hon.Ayakpo Wilson has called on Bayelsans to desist from taking laws into their hands.

Hon.Wilson noted that irrespective of severity of crime committed no individual should be lyched but rather they should be handed over to the security agencies saddle with responsibility of protecting life’s and property for prosecution.

He made this known through his Facebook page while reacting on the increasing spate of jungle justice  in Yenagoa.

Recalls that in the spate of one week about 4 persons have been allegedly killed by mob in the state capital for crimes ranging from phone snatching, armed robbing and kidnapping.

He said”The spate of jungle justice in Yenagoa Bayelsa State capital is frightening. I condemn this act in its entirety and the culprits should be brought to justice.

I’m calling our people to please desist from this barbaric act. Lets protect one another by calling the relevant security agencies in any crime situation. Anyone found in any form of criminality should be arrested. We shouldn’t take laws into our hands. Those carrying this brutal act are as guilty as the killed. The security agencies are there to perform their duties.”

Also Speaking ,Mr.Dozie Ngwaba,a Facebook user  has condemn in strong term the ugly trends of jungle justice in Yenagoa, saying it’s wrong to make yourself a Judge, jury and executioner.

According to Dozie”

Elected representatives and community leaders must make concrete efforts to sensitise and educate the people on the dangers of these actions. It’s wrong to make yourself a Judge, jury and executioner. The victims of these actions were driven by hunger and lack of job opportunities. Killing and recording for public entertainment is annoying”

Meanwhile, Mr.Okubo Whoknows had reacted on his Facebook page saying, the increase  cases of jungle justice metted on victims is as result of security agencies not taken it’s lead role in prosecuting culprits.

He said”Hon what you said is right but the police are not helping matters, they arrest a pure thief called it culprits and free them without prosecuting them, security agencies are not doing their work in Bayelsa state, these the same Boys collected  my 30 thousand with my my Tecno spark 3 Android phone at the market in broad day light no one comes out to help me because they are afraid. Jungle justice is the best for now”.

A resident of Yenizue Gene who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity said acts of jungle justice are uncivilized and a manifestation of the erosion of moral values and a disregard to sanctity of human lives, calling on Bayelsan to steer-clear of human rights violations and all manner of impunity and jungle justice and  report cases to relevant authorities.
