A concerned resident in Bomadi town, Mr. Jones Atangba has appealed to the governor of Delta state, His Excellency Chief Sherriff oborevwori, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)
and other top Ijaw politicians to come to the rescue of Bomadi General hospital from its present sorrow state where medical doctors sleep in very poor rooms, due to lack of accommodation
He also appealed to the chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Mr. Chiedu Ebie to review the contract awarded since 2012 and empower the contractor financially to mobilize hin back to the site where special male ward building had been abandoned.
In a press statement signed by Mr. Jones Atangba, which was made available to Daily Watch Thursday.
According to him. ”I wish to humbly draw the attention of the Delta state executive Governor, His Excellency Chief Sherriff Oborevwori,Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and other Ijaw Political leaders to come to the rescue of the Bomadi General hospital in Bomadi LGA, Delta state.
”The Bomadi General hospital is an eyesore. It is facing a lot of challenges . The only Secondary health facility in Bomadi Local Government Area that provides health services to the Ijaws of Delta and Bayelsa State in the Riverine settlements. The facility needs additional wards, the present situation of the wards in the Hospital doesn’t portray a modern Hospital setting, where Children and female patients share one ward, the only M
Male ward is divided into parts, one side for Sickle cell patients and the other part as male ward, the Maternity Ward is so congested, no Isolation ward, Amenity ward, emergency Unit, X-ray and Scanning Unit, Public Health Department.” He revealed.

He further said that “Since, the establishment of Bomadi General Hospital in 1972, no single new building has been built, untill 2012 when the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) awarded a contract for the construction of a modern multiple Male Ward at General Hospital Bomadi to a firm ( name withheld’) the contractor has done a very good job. But the project has been abandoned for lack of funds.
Atangba has appealed to Governor Oborevwori, NDDC and Ijaw Political Leaders to intervene and see that the contractor is fully mobilized financially to enable him complete the job so as to boost the infrastructural development of the Hospital as a way of solving the problem of shortage of wards.
He however, also called on prominent Ijaw leaders of Delta South Senatorial District that General Hospital Bomadi is the only Zone in the Administrative structure that has eight (8)Eight Hospitals namely; General Hospital Bomadi, General Hospital Patani, General Hospital Burutu, Government Hospital Forcados, Cottage Hospital Ogulagha, Government Hospital Kiagbodo, Government Hospital Ojobo and Government Hospital Ogriagbene. Currently. That it is sad to mentioned General Hospital Bomadi has only Four(4) medical Doctors Headed by a consultant (family medicine) who is the Medical Director of the Zone.
”The Bomadi hospital has no befitting accomodations, if you see where two of the Medical Doctors manage to lay their heads at night after a tedious daily job, you will have pity for them. So, the state government or NDDC should build more staff quarter for them to motivate them to work well.” He appealed.
