ASTAL embarked on training and aimed increase awareness level of users community from the grassroots to tertiary institutions.
THE ADVANCED SPACE TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS LABORATORY (ASTAL) has embarked on a number of promotion, propagation, popularization and training programs aimed at increasing the awareness level of the user community from the grassroots to tertiary institutions.
The Deputy Director and Head, Information Planning And Documentation, Dr. Esther Hanson made this known during the scientific workshop on space technology promotion, popularization and propagation for schools and colleges of the niger-delta religion in Uyo.
The Deputy Director was represented by Director/ CEO, Dr. Kenneth Uchua said their scientific training is geared to meet individual needs and aspirations as our team of reliable instructors in various fields of science and engineering can tackle issues using various based tools.
He said their target is to ensure stakeholders and technology end-users are updated towards Space Science and relevant technologies.
Also speaking; Dr. Simeon Ozumba, Department of Computer Engineering University of Uyo emphasize on the expansion training across rural areas, whereby involve the council chairman and also principals of institutions. Adding that scientific technology upgrade for more technological training to our students in the primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.
He said nation needs a well informed, scientifically literate population that is capable of adapting to and working with new and emerging technologies for overall sustainable development.
A participant in the workshop, Mr. James Udo said THE ADVANCED SPACE TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS LABORATORY digital image processing laboratory is equipped with modern hardware and software gadgets. It parades an impeccable scientific expertise required to carryout in-depth application, research and training in all aspect of SRS, GIS, GPS and related technologies which is a welcome development in this present dispensation.
