Akwa Ibom: Drama as ward chairman walked out on University Don aspiring for state assembly

IKOT -There was a melodrama at Ikot-Ekwere community at Nsit Ubuim Local Council area of Akwa Ibom State following the walk out staged by the Ward 3 chairman of People Democratic Party, Sunday Bob on a University Don,Dr. Ekokoi Solomon who is aspiring to contest the constituency seat at the State House of Assembly on the platform of the Party come 2019.

 

The Ward Chairman, Sunday Bob, who was visibly angry over the caliber of support and entourage behind Dr. Ekokio at the meeting venue, openly declared that he wasn’t ready for a discussion with the aspirant despite all entreaties to assuage him.

 

Dr. Ekokoi Solomon, who is a lecturer at the Law Department in the University of Uyo, who however continued his consultation with party leaders, made the declaration amidst show of massive support from political leaders, women and youths of his constituency said on his assumption of the State Assembly seat he would focus on Education and empowerment legislation that would provide massive education, empowerment and engagement of youths and women for productivity and employment.

 

According to him,  due to the noticeable level of poverty and unemployment among women of his constituency,  his tenure as a legislator would be focused on promoting Education and empowerment bills on the floor of the House to tackle unemployment and low productivity.

 

He said “I will focus on bills that would galvanize employment and focus on education. Education would be my priority and ensure that massive development comes to my area. ”

 

On the proposed act on Not Too Young to run,  Hon. Solomon described the Bill as reasonable and called on the State and National Assembly to strengthen the participation of youths by supporting Local Government autonomy that will ensure that youths contest at the local government level and grow through the ranks to make a good leader.

 

Hon. Ekokoi Solomon,  who was prevailed upon in 2015 to step down by the party in 2015 for another candidate, alleged that the  level playing ground expected in the 2019 State Assembly race is being threatened by the Ward Chairman.

 

According to him,  the ward chairman is already displaying open bias for another aspirant of the party and may threaten internal party democracy,” Though am here to see the party,  the actions and display of the campaign sticker of another aspirant on his car is illegal and bias. ”

 

Also speaking at the event,  a prominent Nigerians Delta Ex-Militant leader and peace Advocate,  Pastor Reuben Wilson,  told newsmen that Hon. Solomon has shown through leadership qualities that is needed by his constituency for good representation.

 

A media Consultant, comrade Idonre Ummanah, argued that the action of the Ward Chairman of the PDP would be contained in a petition to be forwarded to the leadership of the party at the State and National Level, “as a ward Chairman and leader in the party, he should have been fair to everyone and not show bias.”
