Despite the recent Abuja federal High Court order that the people Democratic party, PDP in Akwa Ibom State should maintain status quo antebellum on the use of ad-hoc delegates for the conduct of party primaries to build up the 2023 general election and subsequent filling of appeal by the party, the PDP in Akwa ibom state yesterday put on deaf hear on the court issue still move on to conduct the party primaries for the 26 state Assembly and 10 Federal constituency seats.
The conducts of the primaries, the authority news paper learned, that some of the party members said for the party to conduct the primaries showcase disobedience of lawful court order which the party may risk contempt of court as the order was yet to be vacated before the exercise.
It would be recalled that the interpretation of justice jawata’s status quo antebellum order had been a subject of issue in the state which prompted the party to approach the appeal court.
Eventually, some aspirants are still waiting for the court decision of the appeal court, despite the development the party still move on with the primaries, which some of the party faithful believe that it is direct disobedience of the court order, thus, the risk of contempt.
Meanwhile, the highly tensed primaries took place yesterday with the leadership of the party dictating and imposing preferred aspirants on the people as flag bearers.
The action of the party emperor leadership forced some of the aspirants to boycott the primaries in protest. In Abak Local Government Area where the primaries were conducted at the independence Hall ground, four out of five aspirants shunned the exercise. Notably among the aspirants that boycotted the party primaries, was Mrs. Ekemini Umoh.
In Ikot Ekpene Federal constituency, the serving member representing the constituency, Hon. Nsikan Ekong also boycotted the exercise to protest non use of statutory delegates.
Equally noted to have shunned the exercise yesterday were support of obong Bassey Albert, OBA. They were also to have protested the non obedience of status quo antebellum order of the court.
Our correspondent who monitors the exercise like a wounded lion reports that aspirants that had no access to the as-hoc delegates were scored zero while the preferred aspirants carried the day.
