The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors Akwa Ibom State Chapter would tackle challenge facing the profession in the usurpation of Quantity Surveyors duties by individuals who were neither trained nor certified as Quantity Surveyors.
The Chairman Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyor Akwa Ibom State, QS (Dr.) Christian Asuquo disclose this at the investiture of Chairman and Inauguration of 2020-2022 Senate of the body in Uyo.
The Chairman said to resolve this, we must encourage members to step up their monitoring activities by reporting situations in which unqualified persons are appointed to serve as Quantity Surveyors in projects without relenting for professionals to handle those projects.
According to him, we would continue to check the activities without compromise for them not to rob mud on our noble profession as we protect the integrity of our profession.
The outgoing Chairman of the institute, QS Udoeyen Okon, said the issue of quack would continue to be tackle and believe the incoming Chairman would not disappoint members as he would carefully follow the ethics of the profession for the benefit of members while call on members to join hand with him to move the institute to a greater height.
He said they have inherited a growing and active chapter, and wish to commend the efforts of past leaders of NIQS in the State for their immense contributions, selfless sacrifices and untiring commitment in sustaining the chapter and in ensuring its growth and advancement to the present status.
Earlier, the National President of Nigeria Institute of quantity Surveyor, QS M. Abba Tor, FNIQS said the issue of quacks in the profession would soon become history and believe the integrity of the profession would continue to wax stronger, while called on members to pull their support with the new Chairman to ginger the unity and progress of the Institution.
