He said his planned was to build standard and generaly accepted self contained for rent which then change his mind for an hotel to create employment for our youths to frustrate the economy situation experience across the county.
UDOH said he could not believe the engineer would be so funny to used sub-standard material or inferior material for the structure which I have paid all the necessary bills for a standard building .
‘It started with 47 million naira I have not cut down on any cost or reduced the materials cement ranging from 2,500 to 5,000, as well as granite and a high increase in the sand.
‘I never rejected or argued any of these cost with the engineer. I paid all full amounts over N70million’’, he said.
Udoh expressed worry about the well-beging of individuals and families who are victims of the collapse, noting that he was not worried about the money he paid he had spent because the government would take up the issue.
Speaking further, Udoh disclosed that on his visit earlier in April this year, he never suspected or had any doubt of getting a bad job from the company he contracted to undertake the construction.
According to him all approval for the building for the project were received from the akwa ibom state housing commission and the required approval was posted in the building before the collapse.
On who should be held responsible for the damage caused by the collapse, Udoh emphasized that the construction company who he handed the contract of the building should be held responsible for all the damage caused. This, he said was because he had done his part by paying for everything required for a perfect job.
‘Rev Etokudo recommended men to Mr. felix, the CEO of felicity high technology, whom he said was competent and experienced to handle the job. He had shown me some of his jobs attached with his logo and flyer; this also convinced me that he was good for the job, so I asked him to complete one of my buildings in uyo.
‘So what caused the building to fall could be as the result of insufficient good materials that the contractor perhaps refused to buy with the money. I gave him. Hence, he should be asked what he used part of the money for, I strongly believe he did not use it appropriately’’, he added. Meanwhile, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has sent his condolences to the families whose relatives were trapped and killed during the collapse. He has directed the commissioner for health, Prof Augustine Vincent Umoh to take immediate action with the surveyors, while the commissioner for Works and fire service has been directed to set up a panel of inquiry to investigate the unfortunate incident.
