Police in Delta state has confirmed that three persons died while three survived in last week Friday accident where a jeep swerved into a high current flowing river from a bridge top at Agbarhor in Ughelli North LGA of Delta state.
The commissioner of police Delta State Mr. Muhammad Mustafa told Daily Watch on phone, he said the jeep has been rescued by rescue team and the other corpses said to have not survived, a local rescue team is searching for their corpses.
His words, ‘‘The rescue team recovered the jeep from the Agbarho river through local divers operation on Sunday .But there were no corpses found in the jeep. The rescue team is also searching for the corpses in the Agbarho and neighbouring river. I hope that today, we will recover all of them. According to the survors, there wre six persons at the time of the accident ’’ He said.
Asked why Agbarho police detained the survivors against hospital bed? He said, there was nothing like that as nobody was notdetained, but the police did their job by collating intelligence information gathering from the survivors.
” No police detained any survivors. The police is doing its normal investigative job as to know the cause of the accdent and other essential information, especially number of persons as at the time of the accident, where they were coming from and their destination point. The survivirs are not criminals and cannot be detained” he noted
When our reporter called at the Agbaro police station Tuesday morning at about 10;00am to see the vehicle and get further details. But the DPO in Agbarho police station was not on seat . But and subordinates asked our reporter to called later to meet with the DPO.
