The Deputy Governorship Candidate of Independent Democrats Party (ID), in the 2018 general elections in Ebonyi State, Hon. Uchechukwu Cyprain Obasi has defected to the People’s Democratic Party, stressed that the action was to join the incumbent governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi to continue delivering good governance to Ebonyians.
Hon. Obasi made this declaration in an exclusive interview with Daily Watch News. According to him, his defection to PDP is home coming, having started his political carreer with the PDP and aspired as a House of Assembly member, Ohaozara West Constituency of Ebonyi State in the past under the party.
“I am formally returning to where it all began the PDP to join forces with His Excellency, Engr. David Nweze Umahi and other party stakeholders to deliver good governance to Ebonyians. As well as play vital role to helping the PDP clinch power at the center come 2023”. Obasi said.
The soft-spoken vibrant politician vowed to contribute his quota in building Ebonyi State in line with the blueprint of Governor Umahi, whom he said has been doing excellently well in delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Ebonyi State since he assumed office as Chief Executive Officer of the State.
He opined further that he is not returning to PDP alone, but with his numerous supporters from his constituency, whom he said that are in support of his defection and are solidly behind him during his expedition  in Independent Democrats Party.
”Am defecting to PDP with political enthusiasts, my admirers, and loyalists in my constituent who supported move, and saw the action as historic” Obasi reiterated.
Asked if he has intention to contest in the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state. He said said ”when we get to bridge we know how to cross it, further will tell”
